How Did Only 1 Maine Restaurant Make Yelp’s List of Top 100 Seafood Places?
The seafood scene in Maine is top-notch from its delicious lobster rolls to fresh oysters.
Many restaurants have been highlighted in various publications like the online lifestyle magazine 24/7 Tempo calling out Eventide Oyster Company in Portland as the best seafood place. Or what about Maine having the three best places for fried clams in the world?
So how can only one Pine Tree State restaurant be found on Yelp's list of the top 100 seafood places?
Just one? Am I crazy to think that?
The only other New England states to get recognized were Rhode Island with two spots and Massachusetts with one.
Street & Co. in Portland, Maine, Ranks No. 98 on Yelp's 100 Best Seafood Places
Huge kudos to Street & Co. in Portland, Maine, which came in at No. 98 on Yelp's list. Big round of applause.
The Mediterranean, bistro-style, all-seafood spot was established in 1989, according to the restaurant's website, and its chefs "focus on serving the freshest seafood and the best ingredients available from local purveyors, fishermen and organic farmers."
You can check out some great pictures of their food below or on their Facebook page.
You're definitely going to want to make sure you make a reservation if you're interested in hitting up this place. That said, the restaurant does say on its website that walk-ins are OK but at 4:30 p.m. for a 5 p.m. dinner.
Here are a few recent Yelp reviews for Street & Co.:
"Cozy ambiance. And not too noisy! One of the best meals I've had. Bitter greens with garlic bread crumbs and anchovy dressing, hake with farro and...whatever made it great. Fantastic olive oil for bread dipping -- ask for it in addition to butter. And the bread was topnotch. I asked for the recipe for the hake and the server obliged. Wonderful overall experience."
"For the main courses pan seared scallops and a grilled lobster with linguine were ordered. Both were fresh and delicious. The garlic butter on both was outstanding. I think it would be impossible to get a bad meal here. Highly recommend this establishment."
"I might venture to say that my experience ... was one of the top five meals I've had anywhere. I mean, that's such a hard thing to quantify, but I had zero complaints about the food and found every bite to be exquisite."
Certainly, there are hundreds of thousands of restaurants in the United States, so the fact that Maine did get one on a list of only 100 is a pretty big deal. And maybe it's the New England bias kicking in that makes me want to see more get that extra level of recognition.
There are just so many great places and likely many that you can start spouting off the top of your head if you were asked.
So while it still feels like a surprise that only one place made Yelp's list for top seafood spots, congrats go to a well-deserving Street & Co. for representing Maine.
