Mainers: Recreational Marijuana Still In Process
Last month in the state of Maine, you should have been able to walk into a store and purchase your favorite greenery as marijuana being sold as a product over-the-counter in the state of Maine was going to be legal. Alas do to COVID-19 the licensing, product process, and the manufacturing facilities mandates were delayed. According to The state Office of Marijuana Policy, the state should be expecting to see its first recreational sales by the end of the year.
“Our intentions are to start the system,” he said. “But it’s going to be a slower start than we originally intended, pre-COVID,” director Erik Gundersen told the Portland Press Herald this afternoon.
Recreational marijuana became law in Maine because they wanted a piece of an industry that should grow too $166 billion by 2023. With the delay, it would appear that they will fall short on the state’s projected revenue, however, had the legislation not passed. It would be revenue we would not have in the first place.
Slow start or not, the process should go on as is so that Mainers can finally line up at the store and buy their now 'non-contraband' like adults, instead of living in shame. Over are the days of waiting for the guy to show up on a bike with a backpack to hand them some oregano looking substance that may or may not be quality.
What are your thoughts were you for the legislation to have recreational marijuana? Were you against it? Let me know in the comments you never disappoint?
