Instead of an eye sore, Maine’s only law school is holding classes at its new location in Portland’s Old Port.

According to the Portland Press Herald, The University of Maine School of Law packed up from 246 Deering Avenue and moved into Portland's Old Port at 300 Fore St.

Our governor, Janet Mills, graduated from the University of Maine School of Law back in 1976 and was there when they cut the ribbon. This round building is the old eight-story law school building, across from the University of Southern Maine’s Portland campus. It's been the only school for law in Maine since 1972. However, in 2017, Architectural Digest named the building one of the eight ugliest buildings in America. They said in the review,

The university building may look like a futuristic version of the Roman Colosseum, but the only battles happening with these walls are with the bar exam.

Well Architectural Digest, come check out the new digs!

This much spiffier 64,000-square-foot Fore Street office building will also have the University of Maine Graduate and Professional Center, the University of Maine Portland Gateway, and the University of Maine Graduate School of Business. This combines law, commerce, and public policy under one roof.

They renovated the Fore Street office building to make it law school friendly. Plus, it's an ideal location in the Old Port close to a ton of law firms and state and federal courts. Grab your homework and sit by the fireplace on the first floor with a cup of coffee! Great lawyers are sure to thrive in the new space.
