Maine’s Wreaths Across America Starts the Journey Next Week

Trucks loaded with over a quarter of a million balsam wreaths will leave Maine and head to Arlington National Cemetery next week.

This happens every year, and the trip that starts December 8th will take a week.

According to the Bangor Daily News:

The convoy featuring volunteers and tractor trailers is set to arrive Dec. 15 at Arlington National Cemetery. The caravan stops at schools and memorials along the way. The convoy will stop in Augusta on Dec. 9 for a rally honoring veterans. A free mobile center serving veterans readjusting to life after deployment will be on-site.

This all started when Maine wreath maker Morrill Worcester donated 5,000 wreaths to Arlington Cemetery because he had extras after the season. This was in 1992. It went on for years until 2005, when a picture of the adorned stones went viral...and as they say, the rest is history.

The Wreaths Across America caravan starts every year from Columbia Falls, where the wreaths are made.
