A man from Lewiston was taken to the hospital after he lost control of his vehicle and flipped it onto its roof on the Bernard Lown Peace Bridge Monday morning. The bridge that carries Cedar Street over the Androscoggin River between Lewiston and Auburn was closed shortly after 8 Monday morning when the accident happened.

According to the Sun Journal, 38-year-old David Clifford of Lewiston hit the sidewalk when crossing over to Auburn, flipping the car on its roof. When rescue crews arrived he was conscious but not alert and taken to Central Maine Medical Center to be treated.

This Sun Journal video shows EMTs working to extract Clifford from the vehicle.

The 4 lane bridge, still known to locals as South Bridge, is currently under an 8 month renovation to widen the deck, but while construction is underway lanes have been made even narrower than they already were. No word on if the construction was a contributing factor to the accident.
