Sharing your Costco card for the Scarborough, Maine store? That's gonna stop soon.

Last year Costco said that they were thinking about a mandatory membership scan to get into stores. For Mainers, we've barely had our Costco and they are already changing policy.

According to MSN, they started testing out mandatory scanning at a location in Issaquah, Washington. It must have been a huge success because it's coming to all Costcos  - including Maine.

Costco is not messing around with the new policy for their stores - including the only one in Maine

Costco posted on its website,

Over the coming months, membership scanning devices will be used at the entrance door of your local warehouse. Once deployed, prior to entering, all members must scan their physical or digital membership card by placing the barcode or QR Code against the scanner.

When this was first announced, most took it with a grain of salt. Some were worried about long lines, but most were okay with the change.

But there is one policy that has Costco members reaching for their pitchforks.

Get ready to show a photo ID with your membership card at Maine's only Costco.

Last summer Costco was trying to crack down on membership-card sharing. They started a year ago asking to see photo identification when a person checks out using their card if there is no photo on the back of it. That did not go over well at all. Be prepared, if your card doesn't have a picture on it you'll need to show a valid photo ID. You can also just head to the membership counter and have your picture taken.

One more change is coming. Starting September 1, the annual cost of a membership will go from $60 to $65. That's the first jump in price in seven years.

But damn, those rotisserie chickens are so big and cheap!
