You know what, while everybody is talking about all the restaurant closures lately in Maine, let's talk about the ones that are still around and REALLY good.

When I asked myself what the top 3 restaurants were that I've tried this year, it was almost too easy of an answer for me. Here are some of my top choices that serve as both new and old delicious staples of their towns.

MK Kitchen Gorham

You guys. I've only ever heard of a 'lobby pop' being served at High Roller in Portland until I discovered this place in Gorham. MK Kitchen gave a whole new meaning to lobster pop the second they put 'lobster cones' on their menu.

They're literally mini cones that look like lobster sushi and it's not until you try their magic in your own mouth that you'll become obsessed. Just look at it:

George and Leon's roast beef sandwich in Westbrook, Maine

The best way that I can describe this little place is by calling it a dive-bar but for roast beef sandwiches. Really, really good roast beef sandwiches. Get ready to drool:

If you've ever lived or traveled to Boston, then you know the importance of Kelly's Seafood or Mike's Roast Beef.

This little place might even trump those and I genuinely mean that. This is TMI, I know, but I'd drink their horseradish sauce, sue me.

The Great Lost Bear

Tucked into its own little location on the outskirts of Portland, GLB is an absolute go-to. It's actually become a huge tourist trap in the summertime because they literally have more than 80 local beers on tap.

Their menu almost reminds me of Silly's restaurant in Portland before they closed because their menu is so goofy.

Goofy and really, really delicious. The portions are absolutely insane so be prepared to bring home a doggie bag.

Anyway, these places aren't the fanciest of places but just because a place is fancy doesn't necessarily mean it deserves to be on a "best" list. Overall I believe staple food stops like GLB, MKK, and G&L are where it's at. Go try them out!
