For centuries, Maine's wilderness has attracted adventurers from all over the world.  They came for the mountains, they came for the forests, they came for the amazing lakes filled with fish!

Millions of adventure-seekers still flock to the state each year.  Many of those spend time enjoying our majestic lakes.

Because of this, it should be no surprise that one of the best lake towns in the entire country is right here in the 207!

According to a recent list put out by Travel + Leisure, the Western Maine town of Rangeley has been named one of the best lake towns in America.

They chose Rangeley in part because of the fact that it is near several great lakes.  The town sits on the shores of both Rangeley Lake and Mooselookmeguntic Lake (try saying that three times fast!).  On top of that, the town is very near to the Richardson Lakes.

The article goes on to say:

Rangeley Lake is known for terrific fishing — it's a trout and salmon hub — swimming, canoeing, and kayaking. Rangeley Lake State Park boasts 869 acres of mountainous terrain, making the area a perfect hiking destination as well.

The Town of Rangeley itself has a lot to offer.  There are some very cool lodging options nearby, several great local restaurants, and a couple of bars & pubs.  There is also a nice, very scenic, golf course.

One of the really cool things about the Rangeley area is that, because of how far off the beaten path it is, the area is a great place to do some stargazing.  Yes, without all those lights you can actually see the stars!

Other towns on the list include Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, Vergennes, Vermont, Osage Beach, Missouri, and South Lake Tahoe in California.
