Site of Former Grocery and Video Stores in Lewiston to Become Gas and Convenience Store
A lot on the corner of Sabattus and East Avenue in Lewiston that has been vacant for over 15 years is finally going to be developed.
The lot used to be the home to Hannaford Supermarket, Sounds Easy Video and a Sunoco gas and repair station. Since Hannaford moved to a new store up the street and Sounds Easy went out of business, the lot has been vacant, but according to the Sun Journal, a new gas station, car wash and convenience store will fill the spot as well as either a Dunkin' Donuts or an Amato's.
This could be the third location in the Lewiston-Auburn area for the Portland based Amato's. Rival Sam's Italian Foods has seven locations in the area, the first of which opened in 1939.
This project sounds very similar to the J&S Quik Stop that was opened at the former Wendy's location on Lisbon Street in 2013.
Construction on the new convenience store with a planned 17 gas pumps could begin this spring with completion in the fall.
