Some Mainers To Receive Stimulus Payments Via Debit Card

If you haven't already received your government economic impact payment, which is more commonly known as a stimulus payment, be aware that it may show up in your mailbox as a debit card.

Some 8 million households will receive their economic impact payment as a debit card. Single tax filers will receive $600 and married couples who file jointly get $1200. Big money to most people. So here's the gig, pay attention to what you get in your mailbox, and don't throw your money away!
“Last month’s COVID relief package included $600 checks for most Mainers. For some of those who have not yet received these funds, the IRS has begun mailing prepaid debit cards,” said Maine U.S. Senator Collins in a recent press release. “If you receive a letter in a white envelope that prominently displays the U.S. Department of the Treasury seal, read it carefully and don’t mistake it for a credit card offer.”

Those who receive an Economic Impact Payment by prepaid debit card can do the following without any fees:
- Make purchases online and at any retail location where Visa is accepted
- Get cash from in-network ATMs
- Transfer funds to their personal bank account
- Check their card balance online, by mobile app, or by phone
