Sunday River’s 2021-22 Season Opening Day Has Been Announced
The cold temperatures Maine has seen over the past few days have made for perfect snowmaking weather and Sunday River in Newry has taken advantage of it.
Sunday River says that they have been running 225 snowguns this week and have built up enough snow to open on Thursday, November 18 for New England passholders, Ikon passholders, and New England 5-Day and Maine 4-Day ticket pack holders only. The advanced terrain on the T2 and Upper Sunday Punch trails will be open and accessible via the Locke Mountain Triple lift.
This opening is still very much dependent on weather conditions which call for a high of 58 degrees in Newry on Thursday, but colder temperatures over the weekend.
Just how much snow is there now at Sunday River? This amazing footage from the air shot on Monday shows just how hard the snowguns have been working this week. What a beautiful view of the mountain from above.
Sunday, November 21 is the day that Sunday River will allow day tickets for all, but in the meantime, the Barker Food Court and Barker Bar will also be open for guests and passes and ticket packs are on sale now.
Before you head up to hit the slopes, be sure to check sundayriver.com for the latest conditions to be sure that the weather is still good to strap on your skis and take some runs down the mountain.
