WATCH: Rare Tornado Touches Down in Northern Maine
An extremely rare tornado touched down in Aroostook County on Monday afternoon, and it set off alarms all over the state. An off-duty employee of the National Weather Service bureau in Caribou shot these videos, and they were posted on the NWS-Caribou facebook and twitter pages last night.
Maine averages one tornado every year, and they're almost never stronger than an "EF1" designation, the weakest kinds of tornadoes. The National Weather Service will travel to Perham and Caribou today to assess the damage and determine how powerful yesterday's storm really was.
