Last Thursday night (Feb 25), Linda and Michael Korhonen of West Paris were awoken by their son Derrick and rushed out of their burning home to safety with just the clothes on their backs. Now the retired couple is trying to piece their lives back together with the help of a GoFundMe page.

I've never met the Korhonens, but I went to high school with their daughter Shannon at Oxford Hills. She shared these pictures of the devastation to their home and garage as the clean up of what was left began.

Everything they had was destroyed in just minutes as the fire quickly ripped through their home of 30 years. They are in such a rural area in West Paris that water had to be trucked in by tankers to fight the fire.

The Korhonen's are good people, as are the people in the Oxford Hills area. Friend and neighbors have come to help with the clean up and do what they can to get them back on their feet.

The Fire Marshall is investigating the fire, but no cause has been determined yet. Shannon told me that her parents were fortunate to make it out alive, but sadly they were uninsured.

I can't even imagine what the Korhonens are going through, but they are still lucky people to have the support of a loving family and friends to help them through this tragedy.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help raise money to help the family that has already raised almost $5000 for the family, but they can use so much more. Consider a donation at the link below.
