WinterFest in South Portland is Back With a Different Focus
WinterFest is too much fun to let a little pandemic and weather cancel it.
The South Portland-Cape Elizabeth Rotary Club, and South Portland, will have their annual WinterFest South Portland at Mill Creek Park on January, 29. It's 100% free family fun! They won't depend completely on the weather or even the Rotary Club for entertainment. There will be 10-15 groups like the Girl Scouts and local musicians providing all the fun and entertainment. There will be a story walk, fun sports demonstrations, musical and theatrical presentations, s'mores and hot chocolate stations, fire pits, and Touch-a-Truck!
Of course, there will be winter fun like ice skating and snowshoeing, but most of the fun won't be dependent on the weather. They just want to provide an opportunity for everyone to get together and have a good time, whether there's snow on the ground or not.
Plus the capper will be fireworks at Fort Williams in Cape Elizabeth. That starts at 5:30 with the event happening from 11 am - 3 pm.
WinterFest has had to shift, modify and adapt thanks to omicron. They wanted to do a sampling of foods from the area but had to scrub that plan. So they decided to focus on gathering, safely, instead.
They will be providing hand sanitizer and masks and hope that people will take care of themselves and each other. If the kids have been on their screens too much because it's too cold outside to play, tell them to put on a coat, hat and mittens and get ready for some hot chocolate, smores, and fun!
