Food Insecurity in Maine

Maine has recently earned its spot on the map as a foodie destination for people around the country to come to try our local, fresh, and unique cuisine.

New restaurants open almost weekly and we have been finding ourselves in major publications with pride for our culinary scene.

While we may be known as a foodie spot, a lot of our local children are not well-fed.

According to Full Plates Full Potential, 43% of Maine students rely on school meals every day,
with 1 in 5 kids in Maine experiencing food insecurity. This is a disheartening fact and one that makes you immediately wonder what we can do about this.

Brickyard Hollow Helps Fight Food Insecurity in Maine

As shared by Fox23 Maine, Full Plates Full Potential is teaming up with Brickyard Hollow for a campaign with the mission to fight childhood hunger in our state and eradicate the problem. Through their “Pizza for Potential” campaign, they will work to bring this sad statistic down to 0.

Wilson County Barbecue is getting in on the charitable action and during the month of January, Brickyard Hollow will donate $1 for every Wilson’s pizza they sell and on the other side, Wilson County Barbecue will donate $1 for every one of Brickyard Hollow’s beers that they sell.

So, if you’re planning on going out to eat around Portland, you may as well go help feed someone else, too, and hit up these local favorites.

More restaurants are lined up to help out with the campaign but they are still looking for even more to get involved. I will keep you updated as we learn more about what restaurants will be participating, so the next time you want to go out for bites or booze, you know where to go for a good cause.

TOP SPOTS IN MAINE WITH AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE

In Maine, it's not hard to find businesses, restaurants, and shops with great customer service. It could be we are that way because of the many tourists that visit us. Or it just might be our stubborn Yankee roots that we like to treat people the way we want to be treated.
