There are three signs of spring in Maine. The birds start singing, the peepers start peeping and Maine's seasonal seafood restaurants start opening. One of Maine's most popular is Ken's place in Scarborough, and they have just has announced their opening date. I'm ready for some fried scallops and french fries.

Ken's Place Seafood Restaurant on Pine Point Road in Scarborough was originally opened in 1927. Hard to believe they're not far off from their 100th year in business.  Some people have been going to Ken's on a regular basis for over 60 years.

Back in the day, Ken's was more like a drive-in where you pulled up and order your food and picked it up at the window. It still is like that some respects with the windows still here, but indoors now with seating available inside and out.

Owner Dave Wilcox and his staff are the best in the business. Every year they provide the Q Morning Show with lobster rolls during Cans For a Cure along with a very generous donation and we can't thank them enough.

So forget the snow melting and the leaves budding on the trees. As far as I'm concerned, it's officially spring on March 18 when Ken's Place opens up again. That's kind of right on cue as just two days later on March 20 it is the actual official, on the calendar, for real first day of spring.

I'll be there soon getting myself the fried scallop dinner. I may just go all out though and get a Fisherman's Plate with fried haddock, shrimp, clams and scallops. I know, that's a lot of food, so I'll definitely be taking some of that home.
