It's awfully early to be talking about a storm not expected for five more days, but this one, according to WGME is going to be a 'significant winter storm'. It could last Tuesday-Thursday. It will linger for at least two full days with heavy snow, heavy rain, and coastal issues all possible.

This nor'easter in 2007 dumped almost a foot of snow in Portland (11.7 inches). But the big one was in 1982 in early April, when nearly 16 inches of snow slammed Portland. To this day, that storm is the biggest April snow event on record for Portland.

WGME says that while it's not common to have lots of snow in April, it's far from rare. On average, Portland typically gets about three inches of snow during April. There's usually some measurable snow at the Jetport.

The problem with April storms is that collectively, Mainers are OVER snow at that point. This year, with so little snow, we were over it in January after the storm on Sunday, January 7, 2024. To have a two-day event in April, with more water than we will be able to handle, is just...ugh.
