The tiny town of Deer Isle, Maine, has one of the best restaurants in the country.

According to Mainebiz, the second-best restaurant in Food & Wine magazine is almost three hours from Portland, and plane rides from foodie cities like New York and Los Angeles. Aragosta at Goose Cove came in second among the 20 best restaurants in the magazine's 2024 Global Tastemakers awards.

In its review of Aragosta, the magazine proudly states,

Chef and owner Devin Finigan’s seasonal farm-to-table restaurant in coastal Maine is over 10 years old, but it’s still among the most coveted places to eat in New England.

Who dared beat this Maine treasure? The number one ranked place was Anajak Thai in Los Angeles. Third place was Semma in New York. Nestled in between is the passion of Devin Finigan. She is the daughter of a chef, and worked for years behind the scenes until she bought property on Goose Cove. If that's too far to travel for a meal, you can stay, too. She not only has the restaurant, but also nine cottages and suites to make a weekend of it.

She's a fierce woman chef, and was nominated in 2020 for a James Beard Award. Food & Wine was kind to Maine. Portland came in at #9 in their 10 U.S. cities for top destinations for food and drinks. It's not the first time Portland has been on the list, and it won't be the last. Portland beat Honolulu and is just behind Washington, D.C.

Winners of the Food & Wine Global Tastemakers awards are picked after a very thorough selection process. 180 international food and travel journalists nominate their favorite, then those nominees are whittled down by a 17-member expert panel and the magazine's editors.

In other words, it's a big deal, and well-deserved for Aragosta and Devin Finigan.
