Herb considers himself luckiest guy in the world to be able to captain one of the greatest rock stations in the USA! That's why the call him "The Captain," right? He's been on the Blimp for over 30 years, and no two days have ever been the same. He calls Blimp listeners “friends I’ve never met,” and it’s true as they share a common bond of living in Maine and a passion for Rock and Roll. He also enjoys working with so many local charities and businesses as well. He's wicked proud to represent Townsquare Media as Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of the Maine Association of Broadcasters and as a board member of NESCom at Husson University.

Bagpiper Serenades St Paddy’s Day Traffic in Downtown Portland
St Patrick's Day in Portland is always one of the best days of the year. Except for last year. Oh, and this year. Usually, the bars are full, people are singing and dancing in the streets, the St Paddy's Day parade goes down Commercial Street, and the city is buzzing...in more ways than one! So it was a joy to find one guy who wouldn't let a global pandemic stop his years-long tradition of playing his bagpipes for the people of Portland. Meet George, from Pine Point. George has played his bagpipes on St Patrick's Day at the iconic Miss Portland Diner for many years. With COVID, George took his gig outside and played a free concert for traffic passing by on Marginal Way. He looked great in the kilt and sounded fantastic! Thank you, George and the Miss Portland Diner for keeping the spirit of St Paddy's Day alive. I say we put George at the head of the St. Patrick's Day Parade next year!
Would You Ski Jump Off New Hampshire’s “Sleeping Giant”?
Did you know that New Hampshire is the home to a very historic ski jump? The Nansen Ski Jump, just north of Berlin on Route 16 in Milan, NH was, at one time, the largest ski jump in the country! In fact, it's now a historic site and a state park. The jump is a doozy, with a 225-foot vertical drop. There's something about ski jumping that both thrills and scares the crap out of me. One minute I want to go. Then I watch one of the videos below and hide under my desk. I always wonder how you train to jump? I know you start with bumps, but at some point, you have to "jump into the deep end" as it were and just go for it.
Maine Will Get Its Irish On With a Free Live Stream Concert with Dropkick Murphys Tonite
Let's go Murphys! It's not St Patrick's Day in New England without the Dropkick Murphys. For many years the Murphy's have done a slew of concerts around St Paddy's Day in and around Boston. Last year, with the COVID lockdown just starting, the band did a free live stream from a secret undisclosed location on St Paddy's Day. It was one of the very first live streaming concerts. Here we are a year later and the Murphys are still in lockdown. And luckily for us, bringing the World another free streaming concert.

Any Guesses How Much It Costs To Rent This Scarborough, Maine Home in August?
Don't you think that after all you and your family have been through in the past year, that you deserve a nice vacation? Well, you DO, but this home for rent in Scarborough may be just a little too nice. And expensive. Even if we all pool together our stimulus checks, I don't think we will be able to afford the $79,000 it would take to rent this beauty for a MONTH. Yup, 79k a month for July and August this year.
Do You Mainers Remember This Classic York’s Wild Kingdom Ad from the 1980’s?
York's Wild Kingdom has been a favorite of Mainers and tourists alike since 1945. It was first known as Animal Forest Park. There were also Animal Forst Parks in Laconia and North Conway. When it changed to York's Wild Kingdom, the park was separated, with the front half being an amusement park and the back half being the zoo. Over 200,000 people a year still visit York's and we hope this iconic Maine spot can reopen again soon!
