Who Else Has Been Fooled by the Portland, Maine, Burger King?

I know that many of you will say that I'm an idiot (I'm cool with that), but there might be a couple others who were also tricked.

First, let's start with a little history lesson. It may explain how I've been tricked.

In 1978, Maine passed a "billboard law" that banned billboards. You can have a sign within 1,000 feet of a business, but there are requirements.

One of those requirements is a 25-foot height limit.

Burger King in Portland, Maine (almost in Westbrook), right off the turnpike must be grandfathered in.

Their sign has GOT to be more than 25 feet high. I don't know for sure, since I've never measured it, but it seems way higher than 25 feet.

And here's where the trick comes in. On many occasions, I've thought that damn sign was the MOON!

I have been tricked a couple of times thinking that it was one of those pretty low-lying full moons.

I'm not the only one tricked into thinking the Burger King sign was a full moon in Maine.

It has happened to an actual photographer!

This was in Washington, D.C.! I'm feeling slightly better about my mistake. If you Google 'Burger King appearing as the moon', you'll be amazed at the number of times this has happened to people!

Who is going to join the club with me and admit in their out-loud voice that you, too, were tricked by the Burger King sign in Portland? The only thing you can do at that point is go to the full moon and treat your bruised ego to a Whopper.
