David Letterman announced his retirement from late night TV last night on The Late Show. When he finally hangs it up next year, he will have been doing a late night show for 33 years. That's a longer run in late night than Johnny Carson!

I've always been a Letterman fan. He totally got the shaft back in 1993 when NBC decided to give the Tonight Show to Jay Leno, and in a big "screw you NBC," Dave moved to CBS to create The Late Show. His new show was good, but I still have always thought Dave's best stuff was when he was at NBC hosting Late Night.

One of his best bits on Late Night was when he would drop things off a five story tower. Bowling balls, watermelons, champagne bottles, just about anything that would look cool when it hit the ground.

What was the best thing he dropped of the building? It has to be the turkey bouncing off a trampoline.

People shoot video doing crazy things like this and posting them to YouTube all the time today, but Dave was the pioneer of crazy. I'm going to thoroughly enjoy the time we have left with him in late night.
