The First Tee of Maine® will hold the first ever informational golf event in Maine for girls of all ages and abilities on June 22, 2014 at Riverside South Golf Course. The free Girls Golf Fair, held from 1 to 4 p.m. rain or shine, will include fun games, prizes, music, crafts, give-aways, snacks, informational hand-outs and instruction by local golf professionals.

The Girls Golf Fair is aimed at growing the game of golf by introducing non-golfers to the sport in a low-key, fun environment and encouraging girls who already play golf to continue with this lifelong sport. Local golf professionals as well as high school players will provide instruction and tips. In addition to fun activities, prizes and give-aways, the fair will provide information on area golf courses’ junior programs for girls, opportunities for girls to play with statewide golf associations and the availability of college golf scholarships for women.

The First Tee provides young people with character-building and life skills lessons using golf as the platform. Through The First Tee program, young people discover how skills that are essential to success on a golf course can also help them succeed in life. With golf as the vehicle, Nine Core Values are taught – Honesty, Integrity, Perseverance, Sportsmanship, Responsibility, Judgment, Respect, Courtesy, and Confidence.
