We're all guilty of forgetting our ice scraper either at work, home, or just not going to buy one, instead thinking "I'll just do it tomorrow". I mean, I could literally be checking out of Home Depot and they could ask me if I wanted them to throw in a free ice scraper, and for some wild reason I'll say "No, I'm good, thanks". Which leads me to this story.

We've had two "major" (I guess you could say) snowstorms so far here in Maine, both of which required us to clean our cars off pretty intensely. For the first storm, I completely forgot to grab my ice scraper from my storage unit and bring it home with me for work in the morning. I had to improvise.

Guys, 4:45am comes quick and miserable when you have to clean your car off from snow and ice without a tool, so please don't judge me for my improvising here.

I grabbed a mug of hot water and threw it on my windshield to expedite the thawing process on my car so I could get my ass to work on time. Joke's on me.

The windshield CRACKS the moment the hot water hit my shield, and I just sat there and shook my head, realizing you can't throw boiling water onto ice. It will break. I KNEW THAT. That's the worst part. I literally knew that's what would happen, but I wasn't in my normal state of mind. I was in my 'I just crawled out of bed at 4:45 in the morning and it's 8 degrees out' state of mind, and was trying to figure out how to make my time standing in the snow less sucky.

Anyways, this is a PSA and quick reminder that throwing hot water on your windshield will melt the snow, but also crack your glass (just in case you're an early bird like me and you're not in your right state of mind just yet).

Honestly, I'm not even mad at myself. It was a mistake, and if telling you my mistake helps you not ruin your windshield this winter, then the mistake doesn't go to waste!
