Faecbook Memories brought this photo back that I took five years ago that looks really creepy when you don't know what it is.

The eyes are obvious, but the lower part of this mechanism makes up a lower jaw including a bottom lip. It works using solenoids to move the eyes and jaw. I had it taken apart because it wasn't working properly and I was attempting to fix it.

I had turned the dining room table into my work bench. My son Jake was only 4 at the time so his Toy Story place mat worked as a staging area for all the pieces of this horrific looking thing. After some help from my friend Steve, we finally got it working again.

His name is Rudy and he's a major part of a pinball machine. Funhouse was released in 1990 and Rudy was the operator who taunted, teased and insulted you as you explored his 'Funhouse' through the various shots you would make in the game.

Your main objective was to stay in the Funhouse long enough to advance the clock to midnight and put Rudy to sleep. He would begin snoring which allowed you to shoot a ball into his mouth that woke him up and spit it back out at you along with two other balls.

When Rudy is working properly his mouth moves as he talks and his eyes follow the ball around the game as you play. When he's not working properly he looks like he has some serious issues with his eyes pointing in two different directions.

Here's what Rudy looks like when he's working.

If you ever find this game near you, it's a lot of fun to play. The nearest location that I know that has one is Pinball Wizard Arcade in Pelham, New Hampshire.

If you want tips on how to get the best score, World Pinball Champion Bowen Kerins shot this tutorial on Funhouse showing the strategy you should use to impress your friends and shut Rudy's mouth.
