It might have taken this entire situation for some of us to realize that Easter is a bit of a wonky holiday.

And before you think this is taking a religious angle, it's not, so pump the brakes and take a deep breath if you were already planning on heading to the comments section and opening a verbal can of whoop booty.

Easter Holiday

While Easter is a big deal for some -- complete with family gatherings, Easter egg coloring, hunts, and baskets for the kiddos, and another excuse for people to eat candy for breakfast -- it's not celebrated by all.

Easter, at the end of the day, is a religious holiday, and depending on your religious views (if any), it may just be any normal Sunday to you.

But the wonkiness comes from the fact that, essentially, Christmas is also a religious holiday, yet is treated very differently than Easter when it comes to rules and regulations.

Like public parking.

Parking Holidays

On the evening of Easter Sunday, a man named Matt posted to The (un)Official City of Portsmouth, NH page on Facebook asking one simple question.

What followed was almost 80 comments in response made up of a few actual answers, some sarcasm, but mostly ripping the City of Portsmouth apart for their parking laws.

Some reactions (kept anonymous) included:

'This town loves their parking ticket money.'

'Portsmouth is ridiculous with the tickets.'

'I swear they hire stealth ninja’s that hide behind fire hydrants with a timer and hop out the second you run out of time.'

'...Portsmouth is run by commies!'

'They are terrible! Even when I pay, send them proof of payment at the kiosk, they charge me with penalties!'

'Portsmouth is ticket happy.'

'Parking was free today in NYC, just saying. Portsmouth needs to get over itself!'

Unfortunately, though, for Matt, he missed a warning in the same Facebook group from fellow member named Kevin, who was trying to look out for everyone.

Portsmouth, NH Parking Rules

Even the fact that it was Sunday didn't matter, because what once was a free day to park all day long, is now only free until Noon, according to the City of Portsmouth parking laws.

(To reiterate the wonkiness of Easter compared to Christmas -- that list of parking laws linked to above, which includes free parking holidays, doesn't include Easter but does include Christmas.)
