Q97.9 Celebrates 21 Years On The Air
21 years ago today at 2PM, Q97.9 hit the airwaves for the very first time.
When we went on the air on November 1, 1996, Meredith Manning was hosting the morning show solo, I was on afternoons, Jeremy Daniels was on at night and Mike Adams was hosting overnight. It was the first time there was a Top 40 radio station in Portland since 1992.
Here's the original on-air staff from 1996. Mike Adams, Jeremy Daniels, Meredith Manning and Jeff Parsons. I'm not quite sure what I'm grinning like that.
The very first song played was 'Be My Lover' by La Bouche.
21 years later I'm still here and so is Mike, but more behind the scenes in our promotions department. We're now at the point that many of you have grown up listening to Q97.9. Those of you that were born on the day we flipped the switch are now of legal drinking age. Wow. Having this longevity for the Q and my career here is something I would never have imagined on day one. Thank you for listening and here's to another 20+ years!
