I learned this in school, but it's not being taught anymore. Kids are now not able to do a very simple task that will be needed in life to do everything from register to vote to buying things!

Schools don't teach cursive writing anymore. Guess what you need and almost daily...your signature. Kids cannot sign their name!

According to a 2013 Portland Press Herald article:

Many school officials, however, are reconsidering whether cursive is necessary, when writing on computers is so common in schools and workplaces. Cursive is not required in the curriculum standards that 45 states have adopted for English and language arts.

Some states using the Common Core have added a standard for cursive handwriting or passed separate legislation to ensure that it’s still taught. Those states include California, Massachusetts and North Carolina.

Cursive was not required in the standards that the Common Core supplanted in Maine.

We are teaching our kids cursive. You'd be amazed how much kids want to learn it! Just think how often you have to sign stuff.

Are your kids learning cursive? If not, are you teaching them?
