If you grew up in the 70's and 80's, you probably remember when McDonald's apple pies were fried. Now they're back at the South Paris McDonald's and you get can one for free.

The fried apple pie was a staple of McDonald's for 25 years, but were phased out in 1992 and replaced with the baked apple pie you get today. For some, like me, the new pie just doesn't compare to the old school fried pie with a center so hot you had to wait before you could eat it.

The pies are cooked the same way as McDonald's french fries are, giving them a crispy and flaky texture that every kid loved back in the day.

Since the fried pie was discontinued, many people have posted recipes on how to create your own.

Nothing compares to the original though, and you can get it at the brand new South Paris McDonald's for free.

To celebrate the grand reopening in their new state-of-the-art restaurant, the South Paris McDonald's will give every drive-thru order a free fried apple pie every Friday in November from noon to 1PM.

I'll be there broadcasting live from 5 to 7PM on Wednesday, November 2 when Big Macs will be only 99 cents. Back in my hometown at the opening of a new McDonald's. It's like I'm a kid again. (Red shirt. Reading the card. On the right. Full of fried apple pie.)
