Normally you couldn't get these kids to pick up and shovel and rake, but when they decided to build their own radio controlled car race track they got the job done. I had no idea how big RC racing has become. It's not just for kids. A lot of adults are building their own RC cars to race against each other and there are many tracks in Maine to choose from.

Some kids at the campground I stay at in South Waterford have RC cars, and they would typically run them up and down the camp roads. This weekend though they spent Saturday night designing their own track and on Sunday morning were out with rakes and shovels to build it.

It was very cool to see these kids take the time to design something and then put in the labor to actually build it. It sure beat sitting around playing video games. They had an idea for what they wanted and made it happen through planning and team work. And it came out great!

I got to "take the wheel" of a car and let me tell you it's not as easy to control as it looks. The kids spent all day at their track and took the time to groom it, repair it and keep it in good running order. Check it out in action:
