Weekend Plans? Here are 5 Things To Do Around Portland for Under $5
Portland may have a reputation for being an expensive city but you can still find cheap things to do in town or within a short drive. These 5 things range in price from free to $5 per person. Do 'em all this weekend and you're still spending less than the cost of two movies and a popcorn.
Visit Mackworth Island
COST: $3/adult admission fee
Mackworth Island is easily accessible by car or on foot in Falmouth. The walking trail has plenty of spots to gaze out over the ocean or walk down to the secluded beaches. Build a fairy house while you're there.
Hike to Screw Auger Falls
COST: $3/adult admission fee
Screw Auger Falls is located within Grafton Notch State Park. If it's warm enough, jump in for a swim.
Eat Pier French Fries at Old Orchard Beach
COST: Varies by size
Your first batch of OOB Pier Fries is a sure sign of summer. I'm not exactly sure what they fetch for an order of pier fries these days, but $5 should get you plenty of fried potatoes to enjoy while fighting off seagulls.
Visit Portland Head Light & Museum
COST: $2/adult admission
Portland Head Light is one of the most iconic sights in Maine. The museum admission is only $2. Extend your adventure by walking over the Fort Williams and exploring the ruins of a gorgeous stone building.
Walk Your Dog at East End Beach
COST: Free
East End Beach is open to off-leash dogs until Memorial Day, so there's only a few days left for your dog to run free with his friends on the sand. My dogs love East End Beach and you'll probably see me there chasing them up and down the shore this weekend.
