WJBQ Remembers Chuck Morgan

Radio veteran and former WJBQ production director and on-air host Chuck Morgan has died at the age of 67.

Long-time radio listeners here in Portland will remember Chuck Morgan from WJBQ way back in the day. Chuck lead the production team and hosted his own show on WJBQ in the 80's and into the 90's, as WJBQ changed to WWGT.

Originally from Massachusetts, Chuck Morgan (Bob Michaud) started his career at WAAB and WAAF before moving to Maine to work for program director Harry "Bud" Nelson at WJBQ. Widely recognized in Maine for his production skills and voice work, Chuck went on to form his own production service, Morgan Media, where he produced commercials, promos and other long-form programming for clients and radio stations in New England and across the country. Many people will remember Chuck as the voice over talent on G.M. Pollack & Sons commercials from the 80's and 90's.

After moving with his family to Florida, Chuck couldn't stay away from the business. He joined Rick McGee at WLOZ in Fort Meyers as a morning news host.

Rob Steele, Q97.9's afternoon host, worked with Chuck in the early 90's, when 97.9 FM was WWGT, "G-98." Rob recalled working with Chuck and the lasting memories of the old radio team.

"I was fortunate to get to work along side Chuck at G-98. He was a production pro, and was one of the most recognizable voices here in Maine. Chuck was at the top of his game, and I'll always remember watching him work in the studio. He had a really big heart too. He was kind enough to let me stay with his family when I moved to Florida briefly in 2002, and that really meant a lot. Having a mentor like Chuck set me up for a great career in broadcasting. He'll definitely be missed."

Chuck leaves behind his wife Susan, daughters Jennifer and Allison, and two grandchildren.
