In the 80s, 90s, and 00s, we saw American downtowns dying a slow death.  The small stores and restaurants that formed the backbone of many Main Streets either closed or relocated to shopping plazas.

However, over the last decade, we have started to see Maine downtowns make a comeback.  Even better, the pandemic does not seem to have slowed the revitalization of our Main Streets and downtowns.

Clearly, our downtowns are not like they were in the 50s, 60s, and 70s.  Many of the typical downtown businesses from that era are now obsolete or their customer base has been taken over by large retail stores.  Gone are many of the specialty retailers and businesses offering very specific services.  Instead, we now have downtowns that are filled with unique restaurants, cool bars, and unique shops.

One of the best ways to get a great feel for a city or town is by exploring its downtown.

We really want you to get out and explore parts of Maine you may never have visited.  That's why we have put together a list of Maine downtowns that are worth a visit.
