A Giant Mural is Being Painted on This Building on Main Street in Lewiston

As you travel across the Longley Bridge and head up Main Street in Lewiston over the next few weeks, keep an eye out to your right where you'll see a painting on the wall of the building at 188 Main Street slowly taking shape.

Mural artist Jared Goulette from Portland began work on his latest creation on a bare wall that you can't miss as you head North on Main Street in Lewiston. It's the building on the right before the intersection of Main and Park street.

Goulette, who is known as The Color Wizard, has done several murals in Portland and across the state. His latest is mural can be seen on the East End bathhouse at the boat launch. Each side is painted in a different color which he says are inspired by the wildlife in the ocean and along Maine's coast.

Last Friday, he began work on his next project at 188 Main Street in Lewiston, transforming a blank wall of a building into a piece of public art.

According to the Sun Journal, it took some work to get the green light from Lewiston's historical board to go ahead with his plan to create the artwork on the building. He started work on Friday, July 23 and expects it to take a couple of weeks to complete.

It's amazing what Goulette and artists like him can create with cans of spray paint. It's much better that these pieces are seen on approved buildings legally, rather than plastered all over railroad cars that constantly need to be repainted when the artwork covers up reporting numbers needed to identify them.
