Acadia’s Park Loop Road To Close December 1st

Well, it looks like it's that time of the year again.  Time to close the road with some of the most beautiful views on the planet.

The Park Loop Road within Acadia National Park, one of the most popular roads in the state if not in the country, will close to motorized traffic for the season on Tuesday, December 1st.

The Park Loop Road will remain open to people on foot, bicyclists, and skiers, although it's advisable to be aware of official Park vehicles on them every day of the year, so keep an eye out.  If you're on a bike, be aware that gates may be closed in some areas that you're used to them being open.

The two-mile section from the Sand Beach Entrance Station to Otter Cliff Road and the access road to the Jordan Pond area will remain open to motorized vehicles.  Snowmobiles will also be allowed on the Park Loop Road and on the unplowed lane between the Sand Beach Entrance Station and Otter Cliff Road.

The Park Loop Road may close earlier than December 1st if the weather gets too bad, so you should keep up to date on what's going on by monitoring Acadia national Park's WEBSITE.  The full listing of the Park's winter activities are also listed there.

You can expect the Park Loop Road, the main artery that runs through the Park, to open again next year towards the end of May or early June.  It opened officially this year on June 1st.
