Avicii’s Cause of Death Revealed
A new report seems to confirm what many feared: DJ Avicii, who died on April 20 in Muscat, Oman, was the victim of his own suicide.
According to TMZ, Avicii used shards from a broken wine bottle to cut himself, eventually bleeding out (the gruesome details are especially graphic).
The DJ had suffered health problems including acute pancreatitis for years, according to Variety, and drinking had posed specific issues to his health. His gallbladder and appendix were removed in 2014, and TMZ added that he was hospitalized twice for alcohol-related issues.
It was initially reported that one of his existing conditions may have been a factor in his death.
"Our beloved Tim was a seeker, a fragile artistic soul searching for answers to existential questions," the family said. ""He really struggled with thoughts about Meaning, Life and Happiness. He could not go on any longer. He wanted to find peace."
"Tim was not made for the business machine he found himself in; he was a sensitive guy who loves his fans but shunned the spotlight," they added. "Tim, you will forever be loved and sadly missed."
Stars and previous collaborators have flooded social media with grief in the days since Avicii's death. Rita Ora even dedicated a performance to her "Lonely Together" collaborator.
"I haven't sung his song that we did together, ever since he passed away, until today. So it's going to be very hard for me to sing this next song," she said, fighting back tears.
