People asked her, "Why do you want an old dog? What's the point, they're gonna die soon." Her response made me tear up.

It's no secret that I'm a dog lover. I have two of my own pups and both were rescues and re-homes. I can't imagine my world without Eloise and Lou Lou. I love hearing dog adoption and rescue success stories, because so many of the cases can end sadly. When I saw this story on Facebook from a woman in Bangor, it gave me happy tears.

Mikaela King comes from a family of animal lovers. She was raised in a home with puppies and dogs, cats and kittens, goats, chickens, and even rescued mice. If an animal needs love and care, the King family nurses it back to health and gives it a loving home.

Meet Pippin, the newest addition to Mikaela's animal family. Pippin is 12-years old, but Mikaela thinks he still has his best years ahead of him.

About a dozen people had asked me, "Why do you want an old dog? What's the point, they're gonna die soon. Why don't you get a puppy?" And that is exactly what everyone does, and that's why there are thousands of old dogs dying in shelters each year. I had been wanting to adopt a senior dog for a while, and this past weekend we drove to Massachusetts to pick up this 12 year old guy, Pippin! He had been used for breeding and was kept in a small crate his whole life, and then sent to a kill shelter. He is such a loving and thankful dog. Every dog deserves to spend their golden years with a family they can trust. Adopting one dog obviously won't change the world, but the world will change for that one dog, and for now that is enough for me.

Thank you for sharing your story with us, Mikaela!
