When news broke that the Saco Drive-In was closing, it broke Maine's heart...

The Saco Drive-In was the country's oldest drive-in and a staple for so many Maine families. They became a savior when the pandemic hit and theaters closed...some for good. But even with a lift in attendance due to Covid, it wasn't enough to sustain them. After being around since 1939, they announced the sale to a commercial trailer business.

People were devastated. One Facebook group made it their mission to bring the Saco Drive-In back to life. And now, that's exactly what is going to happen thanks to Aquaboggan. In a breaking news announcement on their Facebook page - they are going to bring it back!

It is with great excitement that we are bringing the Drive-In back to Saco! We are currently working with the City of Saco Government to get all the necessary permits in place to make it happen. Though the timeline and completion of the project is still unknown, we are doing everything we can to keep this local icon thriving for generations to come. Our plan is to have the Saco Drive-In at Aquaboggan Water Park and we are committed to preserving as much history as possible in the process.
A special thank you to both the Roberge family for helping us keep the Drive-In local and to Hale Trailer for the generous donation of the iconic sign as well as several additional historical items for our project. Stay tuned to our social media platforms for updates on the process. We are excited for this new adventure and look forward to providing more family fun and entertainment!

If there was ever a time I wanted to hug someone...this is it! Thank you Aquaboggan Water Park for saving this historic drive-in. They don't have a timeline, but they are working with the city of Saco, the Roberge Family, and even the new owners Hale Trailers to make this happen. I didn't think I could love a water park any more than I do right now!
