Camila Cabello Explains Decision to Quit Fifth Harmony in First Solo Interview
Camila Cabello shocked fans -- and, apparently, her bandmates -- when she abruptly quit her former girl group Fifth Harmony in December 2016. She launched into promo mode immediately after, traveling to the UK to perform "Bad Things," her current single with Machine Gun Kelly. And, unable to avoid the press any longer, Cabello finally broke her silence on the real reason she parted ways with 5H.
"I spent five years dedicated to the group and all of us focusing on the group, and it was an amazing journey,” she said in a new solo interview. “I’m so proud of everything that we achieved together and every moment that we had together. But just like any artist, I just felt like it was time to follow my own artistic vision and so I just followed my heart and here I am.”
She quickly switched gears then, shifting the conversation to her solo aspirations, instead.
“I’m so excited about just making music and making the visuals and just creating that world,” the “I Know What You Did Last Summer” singer concluded.
Fifth Harmony revealed Cabello had parted ways with the group in a lengthy statement, noting they’d “been informed via her representatives that Camila has decided to leave Fifth Harmony.” Camila later refuted this claim in her own statement, saying the group knew full well she was unhappy.
