Dear Diary,

loading...

Dating in the 21st century is ... umm ... a lot different than what it was when my parents dated back in the late 1970s. So many details are shared online. We have easier ways to get in touch. And, apparently, if you aren't "facebook official" in your relationship, then you aren't really dating -- according to some people.

I've had this discussion with my mom and my best friend about when it is necessary to change your relationship status on Facebook. Both had differing opinions on when you should change it. Momma says that it isn't necessary unless you're engaged or married and even then, if they are your Facebook friends, they should know that information about your life. Best friend says that once he/she asks you to be their boy/girl-friend then you should change your status.

I tend to lean toward my momma's point of view on this one. I don't think it is important and if someone is curious, they can just ask me. I'm more of the one who will change my profile picture to one of myself and whomever I am dating way before I feel the need to update my relationship status.

What do you do? Change your status as soon as he/she asks you out, or wait until it's a big milestone? Let me know in the comments or on Twitter #FacebookRelationships.

Until next week,

Xox,

Michelle
