Do Not Run the Beach to Beacon Course This Saturday
There was a strong statement from the organizers of the TD Bank Beach to Beacon Wednesday telling runners to please NOT run the course this Saturday.
Saturday would have been the 23rd running of this iconic race but was forced to be canceled back in May because of the pandemic.
Here's the statement:
“We realize our race community is passionate about the TD Beach to Beacon 10K but we cannot stress enough to runners, please do NOT gather to run the racecourse on Saturday,” said David Backer, president of the TD Beach to Beacon 10K.
Matthew Sturgis, town manager of Cape Elizabeth, added, "As a partner with the TD Beach to Beacon 10K, we are requesting that runners not run the racecourse on August 1. We ask this in compliance with the CDC guidelines and in the best health interests of the runners and for public safety reasons. We request that all of the great athletes of the TD Beach to Beacon community join us in the battle against COVID-19 and join us at the 2021 race."
The organizers of the Boston Marathon had the same concern and warning this past April when that race was canceled.
