Day 2 of shuttling sweet, innocent, slightly nervous little kids to school in the Q van was a success! Well, depending on how you define success. I got her in the door and no one was injured, okay?

This morning I drove to New Gloucester to pick up Shelby and deliver her safely to Burchard A Dunn Elementary School, a mere 13 minutes from her home. I stopped at Dunkin en route in Gray to grab her order of bagel and hot chocolate and my large iced coffee (gotta get that Sip, Peel, Win!)

After pulling into her driveway and getting acquainted with Husker the Husky mix, meeting her mom Jessica and Grandma (whom I just called Grandma...) we took the required first day of school photo despite it being Shelby's second day of school:

We went live on the radio to report the successful pickup, 2nd day outfit, and to mention that I forgot to bring her our stack of cool Q swag set aside specially for her (I was nervous and forgetful, okay?!)

Finally, we piled into the Q van to head off to school, Dunkin in hand and nerves in stomach. Shelby was a woman of few words when the mic was on her, but once we were alone in the van she opened up and told me all about her two new friends in her class, her cousins who live nearby, and her dog's many amusing habits. She saved her bagel and hot chocolate to savor once she arrived at school, and we pulled in with plenty of time to spare.

I had a lovely time meeting Shelby and discussing the finer points of learning to ride a bike and retrieving dead wildlife that your pets catch! It was a true pleasure. Stay astute and learn a lot, girl!
