The lottery is open!

The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife has opened the drawing to select Mainers for a Maine Any Deer Hunting Permit.

You must have a permit to hunt Any-Deer in Maine. "Any Deer" means antlerless.

State biologists are supposedly increasing the number of permits by over 60% this year. That's over 109,000 permits. Typically between 20,000-35,000 deer get harvested each year.

Applications must be completed by 11:59 pm (ET) on August 17, 2020.

A chance drawing will be held on September 11, 2020. We think you have a better chance on this one than you do on the annual Maine moose hunting lottery.

There's no application fee to apply for this permit, although you must possess a valid Maine license to hunt big game.

There is an exclusion to any-deer hunting. From the Maine.gov website:

Maine resident landowners may hunt without a license on their own land if they live on that particular piece of land, the piece of land exceeds 10 acres in size, and the land is used exclusively for agricultural purposes.

See you out there during the second week of deer camp....
