Here’s the Insane Reason Behind Why Bear Hunters in Maine Are Keeping Penis Bones
Okay, to those of you who have never heard about this little phenomena, I'm sure you're baffled right now, but this is real. I've been seeing and hearing about this a lot more lately so I had to look into it. Hunters are actively making sure to preserve and keep the bone of a black bear's penis after they shoot & kill them. Apparently they make great cocktail stirrers.
I can personally attest to this theory because one of my friends who recently had a black bear kill kept the damn penis bone too. It was skinned and preserved on his bar cart where yes, he has been using as a cocktail stirrer! What is wrong with you people?
Well, you can't take the sexuality out of a man, and I have a feeling this bear fun fact might have something to do with it. According to NBCNEWS, scientists have studied what the length of a bear's penis bone might suggest about their sexual behavior. Which by the way, a penis bone is called a baculum, so file that under your "useless information" folder and tuck it away for jeopardy one day.
"Based on the size of baculum, the researchers think the bear likely had fewer but longer periods of intercourse than other mammals. A long baculum, the study researchers say, could have served as a physical support during mating, helping to keep the female's reproductive tract open and in an optimal position for fertilization during these sporadic dalliances." -NBC
Overall, the big reason why hunters are keeping penis bones of the Maine black bears they kill is for drink stirring. My guess is that it also has bragging rights attached to it, just knowing men.
My other assumption based off of NBC's research of the penis bone suggesting sexual tendencies is that maybe men keep them as a source of good omen's for their sex life. Again, I wouldn't put it past men knowing well..men.. and honestly I'd respect it if that's true.
