Ever Driven Over or Parked Under Maine’s Most Dangerous Bridge?
You may have put yourself in danger without even knowing it.
Sure, we probably do that in some capacity every day... but why not stimulate your paranoia a bit?
Business Insider recently released a list of America's most dangerous bridges by state and Maine's may ring a bell. Does this look familiar?
How about underneath?
If you don't recognize it, this is the bridge where I-295 crosses over Route 88, or Lafayette Street, in Yarmouth. You might have noticed, there are CARS PARKED UNDERNEATH IT. If you attend Yarmouth Clam Festival, it's very likely you've parked in one of these spots.
Luckily (and horribly,) Maine's not alone. According to Business Insider, every single state has at least one structurally deficient bridge. The US Department of Transportation (DOT) defines a bridge as "structurally deficient" when one or more key bridge components (e.g. the deck, superstructure, or substructure) is in "poor" condition.
We're not saying the bridge over Route 88 is going to collapse tomorrow morning but maybe next time you're looking for parking in Yarmouth, don't look under the bridge first.
