What would Maine look like 200 years after a nuclear war? Fallout 4 sees it with radioactive mist, mutant creatures and lobster men who use their fishing gear as weapons. The new expansion 'Far Harbor' is now available and the designers explained why they chose Maine as a setting.

In case you aren't familiar, Fallout 4 is the award winning video game that takes place in a post-apocolyptic Boston where the player has to explore, craft weapons, build structures and fight mutants and other humans.

The game features several recognizeable Boston landmarks including the U.S.S. Constitution, Bunker Hill and Faneuil Hall.

Now the game has moved to the fictional town of Far Harbor, Maine with the release of new downloadable content. It's based on Bar Harbor pretty much on name only as you won't see any recognizable Bar Harbor landmarks here.

Why did the developers choose Maine? Lead artist Matt Carofono explains.

So we decide to go to Maine mostly because we wanted to extend that sort of New England feel that we had in Fallout, but take a place that was more rugged and like a harsher terrain and then build on that. Make something that was sort of a feral experience.

The game looks amazing and is sure to be a huge success. This may be the first time that Maine has ever been featured in a video game. It figures. We finally make it big, but we're all dead.
