Maine Freeze-Dried Company Fights Rumors That They Bad-Mouth the Competition
Eve's Garden in Kingfield, Maine, has the most amazing mission, and now has to fight rumors from the competition.
First, let's talk about the mission of Eve's Garden. It's quite remarkable. Mike and Kate Spardello run this operation with a licensed commercial kitchen to tackle food insecurity with regular deliveries of fresh, homemade meals to people in Franklin County (and beyond) who have trouble accessing quality foods. They use the money from the sales of their freeze-dried goods to fund this amazing cause.
While Eve's Garden was at the Machias Wild Blueberry Festival recently, they were very successful and made a $750 donation to the Machias Area Food Pantry.
But rumors began to spread about Eve's Garden, which they addressed on Facebook:
We have to address a false and defamatory rumor that was spread about us at that festival, and that is that we said anything derogatory to anyone about any other freeze-dried vendor.
We do not speak ill of anyone. Ever.
We are the subject of persistent, insidious, and slanderous comments, which find their way back to us in various ways. These derogatory comments emanate uniformly from three specific small vendors that have made the foray into the freeze-dried world.

Please do not believe the rumors. They are lies, and they are designed to defame our small non-profit organization that is designed solely and exclusively to fight food insecurity throughout Maine. The only reason that we can think of that would compel a vendor to say these things about us is that they wish to sell more candies and to make more money for themselves. While we do not begrudge anyone making any money for personal use, we object to their doing so by leveling false allegations against us.
We seek only to do good. To sow kindness.
It is frustrating and demoralizing to hear people speak unkindly and falsely about us, our mission, or any aspect of our organization. We will continue to work tirelessly in the fight against food insecurity, and ask that those who speak falsely about us please stop. There are far more ethical and honest ways to make your living without hurting us or the families and individuals we serve throughout Maine.
I have been following Eve's Garden after learning of their amazing freeze-dried foods and their selfless mission. Please continue to support this Maine company, as its heart and business model are in the right place.
