Transporting a 40-foot-tall tree through the streets of Portland on a huge truck bed is a delicate process. Tight turns and oncoming traffic make it a challenge. But with the help of a Portland Police Department escort, the tree made it to its Monument Square destination.

The tree made the 2.3 mile journey from Hartley Street where it was cut down, to Monument Square and arrived on Wednesday morning.

Here's the tree making a wide turn off of State Street onto Congress Street with the Portland Police escorting.

This year's tree is a blue spruce and Portland Downtown knowns that it's a little sparse after this summer's drought, but they think it's beautiful and "full of holiday cheer."

As always, theres a live web cam pointed at Monument Square with the tree in place where you can watch it be decoarated and lit.

The tree lighting takes place on Friday, November 29 and there's but there's a couple of fun events happning prior to the tree being lit including a superhero meet and greet and a Disney's Frozen II watch party.

Thr tree lighting ceremony begins at 3:30 and includes a performance from Maine's Julia Gagnon, who we all know was a top 7 finalist on American The tree will be lit at approximately 4:30 p.m. by Jackson, a Make-A-Wish Maine kid who we can only imagine is thrilled to be the one picked to pull the candy cane switch that lights the tree.
