Mmmm, it smells okay? But is that food okay to eat after a power outage? Listen to the Maine CDC...


  • Food should be kept at 40 degrees. Try adding ice to your fridge and remember to keep that door closed as much as possible!
  • Your freezer should keep food good for a couple of days. After that, you can refreeze food if there are ice crystals or it's a little solid.
  • You might want to think about moving food into a cooler with ice. I try to just make my fridge a cooler at that point.
  • If your food has been stored for more than 2 hours in an area above 40 degrees - it's toss time. DON'T taste it to figure that one out. Go by the adage, 'When in doubt, throw it out!'
