Even though we are fortunate that Maine has many great police detectives, sometimes crimes go unsolved.

Although they may become cold cases, the police never really give up on them.  In recent years, we have seen several murder cases solved decades after the victims were killed. For example, the case of Waterville’s Janet Brochu.

It took over three decades, but her killer was finally brought to justice.  She was killed in December of 1987.  In May of 2021, Gerald Goodale was indicted for her killing.

This is just one instance of a murder being solved decades after it happened.  Maybe you know something that can help solve this murder from the 1970s.

Lila Drew

According to a Facebook post from the Maine State Police, the body of Lila Drew was found lying on the floor of her Masardis home on March 18, 1977.

The Facebook post goes on to say:

Lila died as a result of inflicted trauma, which is believed to have occurred during the previous night and her case was determined to be a homicide.

The post explains that Drew was a retired teacher who had spent many years educating the youth of Aroostook County at a school in nearby Ashland.  She reportedly lived alone at the time of her passing.
