Mount Washington Had a Message Written in the Frost on the Ground
Mount Washington is well known for its extreme temperatures. On August 2, temps were down as low as were down as low the mid-30s. I did a little digging to see what the average temperature is on Mount Washington during August, typically one of Maine's hottest months of the year.
Mid-30s at the Summit
I did a little digging and found out through Wanderlog that the average temperature in August is. Typically, the high temperature can reach 74 degrees farenheight while the low temperature is usually around 56 degrees. That was not the case on the morning of August 2, 2025.
Frost on the Ground
It wasn't a lot of frost, but there was enough to accumulate on deck railings and parts of the ground.
Staff at The Mount Washington Observatory are on top of the mountain as well as 949 WHOM's broadcasting tower, which gets us pretty much all over New England. Meteorologists at the observatory monitor weather conditions on the mountain.
The YouTube live video above will show you what it looks like on top of the mountain from the observatory's deck.

Good Morning!
What do you do when you wake up in the morning at the highest peak in the Northeastern United States at 6,288.2 feet and find frost on the ground? All you can do is say "Good Morning!"
Things have warmed up now at the summit. The temperature at the peak as of this writing on Monday, August 4, 2025, is 53.2° F, while it's 70.0° F at the base of Mount Washington.
You never know what you'll get for weather over 6000 feet in elevation.
